Are bluray movies that different to DVD movies?Posted in Bluray Player Articles
If you're looking to buy a bluray player, or aren't convinced that they're worth it yet, I wanted to share my experience with my Sony Bluray player. Like a lot of people, I don't like change! And as I'd already bought just about every movie I really liked on DVD, the thought of splashing out on a new format of player and having to buy the whole lot again didn't really appeal. So I haven't been the first wave of people to take up the Bluray craze. But I am a movie lover and I have been using my 40" Sony Bravia to play HD games. I have to say that HD gaming is fantastic. The amount of detail I can see on my Xbox 360 is just incredibly different to say the old Xbox on a standard CRT TV. So I was curious about HD movies and, as the price dropped on Bluray players, I found myself looking at the players. I eventually bought the Sony BDPS350. While I don't want this to turn into a review of this product, I have to say that it's one of the best players - of anything - that I've bought. It's small, it looks gorgeous, and it's very quiet. The menu system is fantastic and it works unbelievably well. Nuff said. I paid about £220 for it at Blockbusters. The first movie I watched in Bluray was Hell Boy 2 - the Golden Army. I purposely picked a film that I knew was heavy on the special effects and would have plenty of eye candy to test out the HD Experience. So what was it like? Was I disappointed? All I can say is... WOW. Bluray movies are nothing like DVD films. The amount of detail you can see is seriously like watching a movie for the first time. In one scene, set in an ordinary room, I paused the movie and you could see every single object on a table, every picture on the walls perfectly, and the view from the window. I know that sounds like a weird thing to say, but the level of detail you can see on Bluray movies is just astounding. I have absolutely no idea if Hellboy 2 is a good movie or not because I was too busy watching what was going on in the background. You don't realize how poor DVDs are until you play a bluray film. Hair, for example, looks fascinating in a Bluray. You can see every strand clearly. Snow - you've never seen snow look so crisp as it does in a bluray film. You'll notice many things in every scene that will blow you away. I could go on and on about how god bluray films look but I'm sure you'll be purchasing one yourself soon. Suffice to say, Bluray is a completely new experience, and it's one that you shouldn't miss if you're even just a casual movie fan. You won't want to watch another DVD again. Bluray is amazing! |
