The Samsung BD-P1600 offers full HD playback through HDMI 1.3 connection. It also does an impressive job of upscaling your standard DVDs, making them look crisp and sharp. Blu-ray playback is first rate, with image quality crisp and detailed in both still shots and fast action. Setting up the player is quick and easy. Like most blu-ray players, it's just a case of taking it out of the box, and plugging it in. There's some welcome little touches here too. The Samsung BD-P1600 will eject a disc in under a second, and has a fast start-up time. Something other players could sorely do with. If you're looking to buy a bluray player, or aren't convinced that they're worth it yet, I wanted to share my experience with my Sony Bluray player. Like a lot of people, I don't like change! And as I'd already bought just about every movie I really liked on DVD, the thought of splashing out on a new format of player and having to buy the whole lot again didn't really appeal. So I haven't been the first wave of people to take up the Bluray craze. But I am a movie lover and I have been using my 40" Sony Bravia to play HD games. I have to say that HD gaming is fantastic. The amount of detail I can see on my Xbox 360 is just incredibly different to say the old Xbox on a standard CRT TV. So I was curious about HD movies and, as the price dropped on Bluray players, I found myself looking at the players. I eventually bought the Sony BDPS350. While I don't want this to turn into a review of this product, I have to say that it's one of the best players - of anything - that I've bought. It's small, it looks gorgeous, and it's very quiet. The menu system is fantastic and it works unbelievably well. Nuff said. I paid about £220 for it at Blockbusters. The first movie I watched in Bluray was Hell Boy 2 - the Golden Army. I purposely picked a film that I knew was heavy on the special effects and would have plenty of eye candy to test out the HD Experience. So what was it like? Was I disappointed? All I can say is... WOW. Bluray movies are nothing like DVD films. The amount of detail you can see is seriously like watching a movie for the first time. In one scene, set in an ordinary room, I paused the movie and you could see every single object on a table, every picture on the walls perfectly, and the view from the window. I know that sounds like a weird thing to say, but the level of detail you can see on Bluray movies is just astounding. I have absolutely no idea if Hellboy 2 is a good movie or not because I was too busy watching what was going on in the background. You don't realize how poor DVDs are until you play a bluray film. Hair, for example, looks fascinating in a Bluray. You can see every strand clearly. Snow - you've never seen snow look so crisp as it does in a bluray film. You'll notice many things in every scene that will blow you away. I could go on and on about how god bluray films look but I'm sure you'll be purchasing one yourself soon. Suffice to say, Bluray is a completely new experience, and it's one that you shouldn't miss if you're even just a casual movie fan. You won't want to watch another DVD again. Bluray is amazing! Sony's BDPS550 is a full HD bluray player that delivers both high quality pictures and sound. Let's just talk about the sound for a moment, as it's often overlooked with all the talk about HD picture quality. The sound is 7.1 channel surround sound and it's far superior to that of even a high end DVD player. The sound is crisp, sharp and as good when there's a quiet scene, as it is with roaring explosions and orchestral scores. A lot of people invested in PS3s when they came out specifically to get a bluray player. However, the quality of the Sony BDPS550 is noticeably better than the PS3. The HD images are nothing short of incredible. Sharp, fluent and highly detailed. There's a massive range of connection options at the back, with support for older AV receivers, and of course HDMI, which is what most people will want to use. The Sony BDPS550 also features Profile 2 technology so you can get access to all kinds of extra interactive content, interactive menus and so on. This player has got very high reviews at Amazon from other users too and is a staggeringly good player. Sporting a modern, black gloss front panel, the P1500 really does look impressive. It's designed to match the existing Samsung TVs, but the glossy black facia will look great under any television. More important of course is the image and sound quality. The P1500 offers Full HD pictures at 24 or 60 frames / second. And perfect, crystal clear HD audio. The image and sound quality are first class. The Samsung BD-P1500 is capable of playing all the current bluray disc features and bonus content, and can be updated via firmware updates from the built in ethernet port, or from USB stick. Updates take around 10 minutes to install and are very easy to perform. The menu system on this bluray player is simple, intuitive and very user friendly. It looks and works easily as good as more expensive players. If you're looking for a budget bluray player, with all the features and quality of a more expensive player, we really recommend you check out the BD-P1500 from Samsung. Stunning image and sound quality, and everything you'll need in the future. Click here for more info on the Samsung BD-P1500/XEU Panasonic DMP-BD35EB-KPosted in Panasonic Bluray Players

On taking it out of the box, the first thing I noticed was how good this unit looks. I'm not really a hi-fi geek and don't especially care how DVD players, TVs etc look - as long as they work. However, I have to say the design on the Sony BDPS350 is just beautiful. A shimering metallic blue. It looks solid and feels like a real quality product when you hold it. It's also got a very slim profile. Turning it around, you can see there's a simply insane amount of audio and video ports on the back. And there's a network port too - although I haven't connected it to the web yet. My only interest with the connections was HDMI. I've got a 40" Sony Bravia and couldn't wait to see what an HD movie would look like! As with pretty much every other bluray player, you've got to buy an HDMI cable separately. The one I got was a meter long and DIDN'T go anywhere near. So make sure you get a decent length. Getting the BDPS350 setup was very easy. I can't remember what I've done with the instruction manual, but you don't really need it. I just plugged in the power, plugged in the HDMI and was away. The remote is excellent - the same shape exactly as the Bravia remotes, only cool BLACK. You can even set it to control your Bravia TV from one remote. What can I say about the picture on this player? It's absolutely stunning. If someone told me there's a player with a better image quality, I wouldn't believe it. Details, colour, and movement could NOT be any better. I was completely blown away by the images from my Sony BDPS350, and continue to be each time I rent a Bluray movie. The sound is something I hadn't expected. I thought it would be the same as a DVD player, which always sounded good to me anyway. But it's a world of difference, just like the picture. The Sony BDPS350 produces incredible quality audio. Better than being at the cinema - and I don't have a fancy audio system. Just the TVs stereo speakers. Review Verdict: I'm guessing that you can see what my verdict about the Sony BDPS350 bluray player is. It's fantastic! Go and get one today. You will not regret it! They're cheap now and you'll love this player. Click here for more info on the Sony BDPS350 |
